For interns, university students and trainees

Have you graduated from high school or are you working on your university degree? Take your first big step towards a successful professional future by doing an internship, traineeship or bachelor’s or master’s thesis at Staufen.

Internship at Staufen

Internships at Staufenare generally offered both in consulting as well as one of our back-office fields such as marketing, the Academy, HR or sales. In addition to internships that are mandatory in certain degree programs, we also offer voluntary internships scheduled individually (including ones of more than three months).

Working student at Staufen

As part of a working student job, you can support our consulting teams or the indirect areas for up to 20 hours per week during the semester. This allows you to apply theoretical knowledge directly in a practice-oriented manner, gain valuable professional experience and get to know Staufenas an employer. If there is a good fit and mutual interest, you will have the opportunity to develop further with Staufenin the long term. For example, through a subsequent internship abroad, a master’s thesis or direct entry.

When you come onboard as a consultant at Staufen, we offer a wide variety of options, depending on your professional experience, industry competence, specialist expertise, and your professional goals. Ideally, you are already an expert in one of our key industries: mechanical and plant engineering, the automotive, aviation/aerospace, and construction industries, and the financial and service sectors. Since we consult with our clients on a cross-functional basis, we assign our consultants to clients who will best align with their strengths and competences.

STARTING AS CONSULTANT

Have a university degree in a technical or business field. Have initial professional experience, e.g. internships or participation in university-level corporate consulting. Analyze data and generate basic information. Independently process predefined work packages.

If you already have professional experience in consulting, you should ideally have the following expertise: Experience in the implementation of change projects, in project management, in the acquisition and initiation of consulting projects, possibly also management experience, routine in consulting and in training or coaching, confidence in appearance and communication, in English, German and other languages. Practical experience in lean management or restructuring is also desirable. Due to our international orientation, dealing confidently with different cultures also plays a major role. As a consultant at Staufen, you will therefore be on the road a lot.

WHICH CONSULTING ROLE IS THE RIGHT ONE?

Associate

Professional experience: 2-4 years. Leads and is responsible for own sub-projects. Supports project managers in the execution of projects.

Project Manager

Professional experience: 5 years and more. Experience in the implementation of change projects or as a consultant and/or project manager. Leads and is responsible for projects. Leads own project team. Develops consulting products, methods and tools.

Senior Expert

Professional experience: at least 10 years. Experience in the management of large projects with more than 10 internal employees. Operational experience at specialist or management level. Strong problem-solving skills and confident manner - also internationally. Knows from experience how to create a partnership-based relationship with customers. Actively contributes expertise and is responsible for smaller projects. Is a subject matter expert in several projects. Develops consulting products, methods and tools.

Principal

Professional experience: at least 10 years. Develops client portfolios and provides strategic support to clients. Leads and is responsible for large strategic projects. Develops and qualifies employees in projects. Has authority to issue instructions to employees in the project. Leads own project team with information, motivation, delegation, development and control.

Partner

Professional experience: at least 10 years. Develops client portfolios and provides strategic support to clients. Leads and is responsible for large strategic projects. Actively drives the development of the consulting team or the service line and is a mentor for his/her team members/employees. Manages capacities in the assigned team. Responsible for the development of consulting products. Has authority to issue instructions to team members. Manages his/her own team in disciplinary terms.

Our recruiting process

Application

We will confirm receipt of the application documents by e-mail. The documents will be checked by our HR business partners and the relevant department as soon as possible.

If a collaboration is not an option for us, you will receive feedback as soon as possible so that there is clarity.

Selection process

Wenn wir uns vorstellen können, dass wir zusammenpassen, vereinbaren wir mit zunächst ein Telefoninterview. Wenn das gut läuft, laden wir zu einem ersten persönlichen Gespräch ein und danach zu einem zweiten Gespräch.

Depending on the position for which you are applying, specialist case studies, presentations or work shadowing can also be part of the application process.

Decision

Our intention is to make the application process as thorough, but also as lean and fast as possible. We aim to give a definitive acceptance or rejection no later than 10 weeks after receipt of the application.

FAQs about applying and joining us

Not necessarily. At Staufen, consultants can choose where they want to live. If you are employed at the Staufen headquarters in Germany, you can maintain your primary residence in Germany.

In addition to internships that are mandatory in certain degree programs, you also have the option of doing a voluntary internship of longer than three months. We will review the possibilities for an internship on a case-by-case basis.

We work to make it happen. For the most part, we work on site with the client, and as needed, we are in the office for tasks such as preparing, following up and coordinating projects, team meetings, developing service products, etc.

We require a minimum duration of 3 months for an internship or a thesis. However, 4 –6 months are preferable. Working student activities are usually possible from 6 months.

Our consultants are frequently deployed in foreign countries, depending on the project, their area of expertise and linguistic skills. Unfortunately we cannot give a global answer about how much time they spend on domestic vs. international projects.

You can apply at any time –ideally at least 1-2 months before the time you wish to begin.
