Strategy consulting after all!

Alissa quickly developed a strong interest in the consulting industry. Alongside her master's degree in psychology at TU Darmstadt, she completed a consultant training course in organizational development and transformation support. After graduating, she joined an IT and management consultancy, where she worked as a senior consultant on various IT implementation projects. During this time, she became increasingly aware of how much potential for innovation remained untapped in companies. So, she decided to join IMP - a strategy and innovation consultancy whose approach inspired her right from the start.

'We pursue the "Open Strategy" approach, the structured opening to the inside and outside, which takes strategy formulation and implementation to a completely different level - in terms of content, process and in particular with regard to the mobilization of organizations.'

– Alissa Nagler

I never wanted to work in strategy consulting. Like many people, I had the image of a "man in a suit" in my head, usually with a background in economics, who sits in a company from Monday to Thursday, analyzes data and facts for weeks and weeks, and then pompously explains to customer management, using lots of diagrams packed into elaborately prepared PowerPoint presentations, how the company needs to change in order to remain successful. And then move on to the next company to do exactly the same thing again. That's not me!

Instead, I decided to study psychology with the aim of going into the field of management development. After a few internships in large international corporations, including in the chemical and automotive supply industries, and a brief detour into clinical work, I realized that the learning curve only rises steeply for a short time before flattening out quite quickly. So, the thought came to me "Why not consulting?". Through my experience with the global implementation of a web-based feedback tool, which I was able to gain during one of my internships, and the consultant training for organizational development, I finally ended up in a medium-sized IT and management consultancy. During this time as a Senior Consultant, I restructured various processes, supported software implementations and was responsible as a Scrum Master with my team of ten developers for building a web-based application for our client's users. Despite the different activities, I missed "the big picture", the opportunity to take new innovative directions with companies and help them become fit for the future.

Through mutual contacts, I finally had the opportunity to join IMP as a Consultant/HR Manager. Wait a minute - strategy consulting after all? Yes! Because IMP is different from traditional consultancies:

We work differently

We pursue the "Open Strategy" approach, the structured opening to the inside and outside, which takes strategy formulation and implementation to a completely different level - in terms of content, process and in particular with regard to the mobilization of organizations. In more specific terms, this means that we not only work together with our client's management team on strategy tasks, but also incorporate the perspective of selected managers from the company and the expertise of our IMP Experts Community - a network of thought leaders, technology and market experts, entrepreneurs and digital disruptors - into the entire strategy process. We achieve this diversity of perspectives through our regular workshop formats, in which we work together with the stakeholders on disruptive new business models, for example.

Our work is focused

Even if we do not have an industry focus - from leading SMEs or large companies in air freight logistics to dairies in the DACH region, almost everything is represented - we concentrate on what we are really good at: aligning existing business models with the future and the "new normal"; developing new, innovative business logics; creating innovation ecosystems to take the client's innovation management to a new level. No two clients are the same, and that is precisely what makes our work both challenging and exciting. Every project brings with it new questions, new dynamics and new personalities. It is our job to get involved again and again, to understand and develop the best possible solution together with the customer. Since as a consultant you usually work on 1-2 projects at the same time, a steep and long-lasting learning curve is guaranteed!

We work as a team

Although IMP has been operating successfully on the market for over ten years - as evidenced by our awards as Hidden Champion (four times in a row) and Best-of-Consulting (twice) - we have retained the agility of a start-up. We are a team of young, ambitious consultants and motivated and supportive managing partners with more than 20 years of experience in top management consulting. We never stand still - everyone has the opportunity to get involved and realize their own potential, be it in the further development of our workshop formats or internal IMP topics such as how we work together as a team. Ideas and personal initiative are always welcome. The diversity of strengths, skills and abilities that we have makes us strong. As different as we are, we are united by our interest in and passion for an open approach to successfully solving our clients' strategic challenges together.
