Taking off with the Double Entry Program

Through his mechanical engineering studies at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) Moritz gained in-depth knowledge in the fields of manufacturing & assembly technologies, logistics & SCM combined with insights in business studies. A consulting internship in Mexico sparked Moritz’s passion for consulting and made him determined to start a career in this field. His passion in manufacturing and assembly technologies and the prospects of quickly being able to take on responsibility, lead him to joining TARGUS Management Consulting after having concluded his master studies in development, production und management in mechanical engineering.

'The Double-Entry Program, aimed at university graduates, is structured so that the first year is spent as a regular consultant at TARGUS, while the second year offers the option to fully immerse oneself in the workflows of an industrial partner.'

Previous Experiences

Before my time at TARGUS, I had the opportunity to explore a variety of career paths in different industries. As a prospective engineering student with a background in physics, I was initially more interested in the theoretical aspects of engineering. This led me into the field of computer-aided development, where I completed several internships at OEMs and other medium-sized companies. As my studies progressed, I further developed my expertise in manufacturing and assembly technology, as well as logistics and SCM topics. Growing increasingly interested in these areas, I decided to intern at the consulting arm of an OEM in one of its Mexican plants. My internship, focused on Lean Manufacturing, restructuring, and reconfiguration of the assembly process. This solidified my interest in consulting, manufacturing, and assembly processes. While working at the institute, I gained additional experience in consulting and Lean Practices through projects advising medium-sized companies.

My path to TARGUS

After completing my studies at TUM, I was keen on joining a consulting firm with an operational focus. I simply wanted the opportunity to take on responsibilities quickly and work alongside the client's leadership. This led me to learn about TARGUS’s unique approach to projects and the opportunity to join the Double-Entry program.

Onboarding and first experiences

Right from the start, I was assigned to a project team and was involved in all project-related activities. This included conducting interviews with external industry experts, organizing and leading client meetings, as well as presentations and working sessions at the management level. Since project teams typically consist of no more than 2 to 3 consultants, I was quickly able to take over my own area of work within the team and be responsible for the results of these tasks in order to contribute to the successful completion of the project.

Work processes and daily experiences/work model

Due to the smaller team sizes compared to other consulting firms, each team member has the opportunity to control their own workflow and can delve into specific topics without losing sight of the big picture. During the project phase, consultants typically spend four days on-site with the client and can work from anywhere on the fifth day. This arrangement allows for great flexibility regarding weekends & leisure time and provides a good balance to the demanding travel routine.

Double Entry at TARGUS

The Double-Entry Program, aimed at university graduates, is structured so that the first year is spent as a regular consultant at TARGUS, while the second year offers the option to fully immerse oneself in the workflows of an industrial partner. The exact role and the company where the candidate will work are jointly selected by the candidate and TARGUS to ensure the best possible match between the candidate's interests and skills and the chosen role at the partner cooperation. Of course, there is also the option to stay at TARGUS in the second year if consulting is the right fit.
