Embracing complexity. Franziska's work motto is no coincidence: with a focus on sustainability transformation, she brings order to a volatile environment on a daily basis. Born in Baden-Württemberg, she benefits from the fact that she lived in Kiel for several years before joining 3con, where she worked at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Her Nordic composure in the face of complex challenges has certainly stuck with her ever since.
"At 3con, I don't only use my expertise for our clients, I also get to help shape the discourse in society as a whole“
– Franziska Weeger
On my career path, I have always been guided by my personal interests. After completing academic degrees in industrial engineering, philosophy and sustainability as well as various professional positions, including in the field of social entrepreneurship, I ended up in science communication - at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
In the end, it was my career change to 3con that made me realize my greatest strength: Thanks to my diverse professional experience, I have a differentiated view of sustainability and the challenges associated with it. I hugely benefit from this in my work as a consultant. In addition to my professional expertise, I have learned to quickly familiarize myself with new topics, understand different perspectives and bring them together constructively. This also enabled me to quickly take on responsibility for various internal and external projects at 3con.
Developing my own consulting style
Before I switched to consulting, I honestly had doubts as to whether I could and wanted to conform to the classic image of a consultant. My somewhat clichéd external view of the industry had led to me not being able to fully identify with the job description and the supposed prestige that goes with it. Instead, it was the tasks that appealed to me: I wanted to support and drive forward solutions in the area of sustainability in a wide variety of companies and corporate cultures.
During the application process, 3con's uncomplicated and authentic demeanor seemed like a good fit for me. Fortunately, this first impression was confirmed after I started working here. The working atmosphere at 3con is extremely open and I have the freedom to find a consulting style that suits my personality.
A corporate culture that values interpersonal relationships
Another aspect of the company culture that I like is that 3con is constantly developing not only professionally, but also in terms of interpersonal issues. For example, we recently had a seminar with the entire team on unconscious biases in everyday working life. Together, we reflected on how biases influence our interactions and discussed how we want to deal with them in the future.
Setting your own priorities in consulting
As someone who has intensively explored the topic of sustainability in various contexts, I was curious to see whether my perspectives and assessment would resonate with the company. After all, one and the same topic can be approached in very different ways depending on the individual. I had a very positive experience at 3con in this regard. We exchanged professional views in many internal meetings and discussed a lot - and in the end, everyone involved benefited. The discussion with other points of view has led to a better understanding of how I can talk about my specialist topic in customer work.
I can now say that this is really typical of 3con: there is no silo thinking. Instead, the diverse backgrounds in the team are used to our advantage in order to think about issues holistically.
This also applies when it comes to other relevant transformation drivers that we are constantly exploring at 3con. In addition to the strategic discussion of sustainability, I am for example also following how the topic of artificial intelligence is being systematically developed. It is particularly exciting when we bring both topics together. In addition to the in-depth understanding of individual areas, we at 3con also benefit greatly from an overarching approach.
Helping shape societal processes and the professional debate
Since I've been working at 3con, I've also been able to advance a number of projects in the professional community. Last year, for example, I was heavily involved in B.A.U.M. e.V. and got to know a lot of interesting people. For me, especially when it comes to sustainability, the field is complex and we can only tackle it together. Solutions arise from working together.
I therefore really appreciate the fact that I don't just use my knowledge for our customers. At 3con, I am supported in making a contribution to tackling sustainability challenges on a societal level by actively participating in the professional discourse - as part of my working hours.
