Rebecca's journey from working student to consultant

Rebecca Thomas worked as a student trainee in the survey team for six years alongside her sociology studies. After completing her Master's degree, she joined ZEQ as a consultant. Since then, she has been responsible for employee surveys for various hospitals and associations. Her first major project involved 11.000 employees.

'The structures in the healthcare sector and the challenges facing hospitals are often more similar than you might think. I see it as an enrichment to support hospitals in getting the best out of them.'

A (new) beginning

During my sociology studies, I worked as a student trainee at ZEQ and gained exciting insights. Even back then, I had a lot of responsibility and was able to gain valuable initial work experience. It was fascinating to witness the further development of the field of employer branding. The corona years in particular were a special situation for our division, as they changed the perception of individual topics, such as education and training, in the healthcare sector in the long term. In addition to my work as a student trainee in the survey area, I also had the opportunity to actively participate in the founding of the research team as a student trainee.

Ready for the challenge

After graduating, I was delighted to have the opportunity to join ZEQ as a consultant. Although I already had experience in the survey field, working as a consultant with project management tasks and customer contact was a new challenge. Presenting results to over 100 employees was also a completely new experience. I was already very familiar with ZEQ through my many years as a working student, but my new areas of responsibility are helping me to develop both professionally and personally.

New tasks, new opportunities

Thanks to my previous experience, I was quickly able to take on my own projects. As already described, managing these projects and presenting results to larger groups was challenging at first, but I quickly learned the ropes and was able to witness a wide range of progress. Supervising working students was also a new experience, which I initially only knew from the working student perspective. In addition to exciting survey projects, I also had the opportunity to conduct interviews in a hospital to evaluate the topics of work scheduling and organization.

From Germany to the world

In addition to my work in the field of employer branding, I had the unique opportunity to work with the research team led by Dr. Nico Kasper. Among other things, the team is investigating what unites the best hospitals in the world. I already enjoyed working in the research team during my studies. It is exciting to now be able to follow the successes at management level.

An exciting journey

It's fascinating how much I've learned in a short period of time. The structures in the healthcare sector and the challenges facing hospitals are often more similar than you might think. I see it as an enrichment to support hospitals in getting the best out of them.

My time at ZEQ is not only professionally enriching, but also personally. The collaboration with my colleagues is always characterized by mutual respect and support. I have not only learned a lot professionally but have also developed my communication and interpersonal skills.
